I was born and raised in Hutchinson,
Kansas. In 2005, I graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan,
Kansas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. During my undergraduate
years, I had the opportunity to live abroad in Florence, Italy and
study European art. Upon graduating from Kansas State University,
I traveled west to attend Laguna College of Art and Design in Laguna
Beach, California. In 2008, I graduated with a Master of Fine Arts
Degree in painting from Laguna College of Art and Design.
My paintings are not depicting what the
viewer should see. Rather, my work is a record of how I see the
world. I understand the world in color and composition. I enjoy
investigating light and am in awe of how it can transform the landscape.
My work chronicles the harmony I see in strong lights and the complexity
of color I see in shadows. I believe that it is important to record
stillness and moments in nature. My work examines a greater simpler
life free of details that have no substance. I find seclusion charming
and enjoy freedom in the simplicity of objects. My goal as an artist
is to make the quaint visible and to create a painting where the
subject matter becomes both familiar and unexplored. Ultimately,
my aim is to have series of work that transcends a mere portrayal
of the landscape itself but also appeals to ones perception of independence
and adventure.
